I’m taking my Recovered Landscapes project further afield, into the Meadowlands of New Jersey. This vast area and diverse ecosystem, with a complex and rich history of farming, development, exploitation and renewal is the subject matter I like to find imagery in.
Starting in the summer of 2021 I began regular trips to various locations around the Meadowlands, to paint plein-air watercolor sketches on site. I bring these paintings back to my studio and develop them into larger panoramic landscapes on paper, as I did for my 2019 project, Recovered Landscapes: Newtown Creek.
